I was cleaning my bathroom a few weeks ago using Oxyclean when I got watery eyes and a stinging in my throat. I had to leave the fan on for quite a while to get the chemicals out of the air, and thought there had to be a better way. With the amount of synthetic materials and chemicals present in our everyday lives, I thought that cleaning products is one area where I can make a clear choice and do something that's no only good for the environment, but also for my own health.

First up we have the cream scrub from Ecover. Marketed as a general purpose cleaner, it took a bit of getting used to, mainly because I've never used a cream scrub before. I'm happy to report though that it definitely does the job, and very well. Areas around my shower have poor drainage and there's often that gross pink or green residue that builds up. The scrub had no problem with any of that, and a little squirt goes quite a long way. Afterwards it left the tub slick and spotless, and the faucets shiny and looking new.

Second up is my personal favourite, the Ecover Lemon and Aloe Vera dishwashing soap. I had my doubts purchasing soap, on weekends I like to entertain and often the food will be multiple racks of greasy, delicious ribs. Could this do the job? Absolutely. Not only is it very effective at cutting through whatever grease your dishes may present (just finished cleaning a tupperware with leftover taco ground beef, can you imagine how much fat was at the bottom?), but it smells awesome! I used to think the apple scented Palmolive was good, but this really makes washing dishes more enjoyable. And it was cheap too!

All these products and more can be found at your local green store, details on the products can be found at http://www.ecover.com/. Enjoy!
